New “Google Skunk” algorithm released to combat pages that stink

New “Google Skunk” algorithm released to combat pages that stink

No, i’m making it all up! There isnt a new Google algorithm called “Skunk”, at least not in public knowledge at the time of writing this. It’s just a daft guess at the next silly name for their series of harsh algorithm updates started in the last year and now continuing on a regular basis.

First we had Panda, and then Penguin, so i’m predicting a Skunk or maybe even a Killer Whale, Zebra or Badger for their next black and white creature to cause trouble to website owners throughout the World.

Want to see a detailed history of the Google Algorithm updates? Those clever guys and girls at SEOMoz keep one up-to-date: http://www.seomoz.org/google-algorithm-change.

So what would this new Skunk algorithm do? Here’s my theory:

Google Skunk: An algorithm for finding content that “stinks”

If your content is poor quality then Skunk might get you. Remember the golden rules of writing and optimising your web content:

  1. Make it real and for humans not search engines
  2. Make it high quality – spend the time creating good content not thin rubbish
  3. Dont do naughty “Black-Hat” SEO tricks – these just wont work any more
