Some time ago, Matt Cutts, one of the senior quality engineers at Google, released an excellent video that explains how Google works. I’ve included this video below and it is well worth a watch to help you understand the many many factors that help to decide which pages are shown in the Google search results when you type in your query and click the search button.
More recently than this though, infact last week, Google have released a new Interactive Infographic that goes into more detail and explains lots more about how Google Works.
The infographic is split into three parts:
- Crawling and Indexing
- Algorithms
- Fighting Spam
And each part allows you to explore further information and links to useful resources.
It goes a long way to explaining how over one hundred billion searches per month are processed. Pretty amazing really!
